Aerobatics: Roll off the top of a loop

This involves the first half of a loop followed by a 180 degree roll, to bring the a/c into level flight on a reciprocal heading and at a higher altitude.

ROLL OFF THE TOP OF A LOOP CHECKLIST

  1. PERFORM HASELL CHECKS
  2. ESTABLISH HEADING AND ALTITUDE
  3. ESTABLISH BEST CLIMB SPEED
  4. PITCH UP UNTIL 3 G LOADING
  5. CHECK LATERAL LEVEL
  6. AS A/C REACHES INVERTED POSITION, APPLY LEFT AILERON
  7. ROLL LEVEL

Common Faults

  • Stopping the loop before commencing the roll
  • Too much forward stick during the roll-out
  • Stalling at the top of the loop due to:
  • low speed
  • insufficient G loading
  • premature roll-out
